How does self storage work?

We offer custom-built self storage rooms from 10ft2 upwards, as well as external storage options. Customers can rent rooms or storage containers to store their belongings. Prices are dependent on the size of the room and the length of time you want to stay. Only you can access your storage room as it is locked with your own padlock and keys are held by you.

Do I need to book in advance?

No, but to guarantee a unit to suit your specific requirements, it is advisable to reserve a unit in advance.

What type of agreement am I required to sign?

You will be required to sign a standard storage agreement before moving your goods on site.

When can I get access to my storage room?

We offer unlimited access to the unit during standard opening hours. For extended hours access please talk to one of our team to arrange your unique PIN code access.

Is the facility staffed at all times during opening hours?

Yes, our experienced team are on site at all times during opening hours.

What if I’m not in to accept deliveries?

Our team are on site during opening hours and can sign for your deliveries and keep your goods safe until you are available to collect them.

How long do I have to sign up for?

You can rent your storage room for as short as one week. Just let our team know when you are booking about your planned move out date. We charge 4 weeks in advance but this will be refunded for the days you don’t use.

Is there anything I can’t store at Wm. O’Brien Self Storage?

Live animals, perishable foods, flammable or toxic goods, firearms, ammunitions, explosives, or any illegal items are prohibited from being stored at Wm. O’Brien Self Storage.

Security

Do you hold a key to my unit?

No, you are the only key holder. If you want us to hold a copy of your key at our facility, our team will secure the key for you without a charge once you fill out a permission form. If you want others to have access to your unit you can add this to the permission form.

Who can access my unit?

Only you can access your storage room as it is locked with your own padlock and keys are held by you. If you want our team to hold a copy of your key, you will need to sign a permission form. If you want others to have access to your unit, you can add this to the permission form.

How secure is my storage room?

At Wm. O’Brien Self Storage the security of your possessions is our utmost priority. We use red wall security and twin alarm system, as well as 24-hour manned CCTV. Only you can access your storage room. The facility is surrounded by a perimeter security fence and an electronic gate. Outside of business hours, only customers can access the facility with their individual PIN codes. Our modern building is also equipped with the latest fire alarms and smoke detectors.

Costs and Payments

What do I need to bring to set up my account?

You will need to bring the following: – One form of government photo ID – driver’s license, passport etc – Payment (direct debit info or credit/debit card) – An alternative contact name, address and phone number – A padlock (we sell them if you forget)

How do I pay?

We accept credit card, debit card, cheque, standing orders, direct debit and cash as payment (however, we do not accept cash as first payment).

Are there any hidden costs?

Why do I have to pay upfront and in advance?

As we are providing a service, it is normal practice to ask for payment in advance. This also means that we do not need to run a credit check on you. Do you charge VAT? Yes, we are a VAT registered company and are legally obliged to charge VAT. Our prices are inclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated.

Insurance

Do I have to take out Wm. O’Brien Self Storage insurance or can I use my own insurance?

No. You can take out your own insurance but it must cover goods being placed in self storage. Not all household insurances will cover you whilst your possessions are in a self storage facility, so please check the terms of your insurance and provide us with proof of your cover if not using ours, which must state that it covers goods stored in a self storage facility. It is your responsibility to keep your insurance documentation valid and up to date.

Does the quote price include insurance?

No. Insurance is dependent on the replacement value of what you store and as we do not know what you intend to store at quote stage, we don’t include it. Talk to our team to get a personalised insurance quote.

How much is insurance?

The cost is dependent on the full new replacement value of your goods if you had to buy them again today. As a guide, insurance start at €1.50 per week per €1,000 value of goods stored. Please contact our team and they will create a personalised quote for you.

Is there different insurance for business storage?

No. The insurance we offer is for all storage users. You will be insured whether you are a business customer or a domestic customer, as the insurance is specific to the value of the goods you are storing, not the user type. If you are using your own insurance, please ensure it states it is suitable for self storage in a place away from your office / normal business location.

Moving In

Do you have trolleys available?

Yes, we have a number of large trolleys on site to help you move your items. These are stored in or near the loading bay when not in use.

Do you have a forklift service?

Yes we do. Our team are trained to drive the forklift to assist you. This is usually free, depending on the frequency you require the service. Please discuss your need of this service with any member of our team.

Do you do removals?

No, we are purely a self storage centre, however we will be happy to recommend local removal companies to you. The companies we recommend are our trusted partners and have worked with us since we first opened. You can however avail of our free van to move belongings into storage.

How can I use your free van?

To use our free van, simply book the date and time that you need it with our team. Then transfer your car insurance to the van for the time that you are using it. When collecting the van we will need to see your driver’s licence and a copy of the insurance transfer showing that you have comprehensive coverage. If you would like a friend of family member to drive the van on your behalf, that is also okay. Just ensure that it is their insurance policy that is transferred to the van. Also remember to keep a copy of the email from your insurance company in the van in case you are stopped by the Gardaí. Can I transfer to another room if my needs change? Yes, you are welcome to move to another size room at any time, depending on your storage requirements and the availability of other room sizes. This will not incur any penalty charges and you will only pay for the size of the room you need. Can I rent a padlock? No, for security reasons we do not a padlock rental service. You can however purchase a padlock from our on-site Box Shop.

Moving Out

What notice do I need to give when leaving?

We only ask for 7 days’ notice and we will refund you any unused monies due by EFT (electronic funds transfer).

How do I cancel my reservation?

Just contact our team directly on +353 (0)21 454 5582 before your reservation expiry date, and we will cancel your reservation immediately.

If I have paid up front for long term storage, can I leave early and will I get a refund?

Yes, you can leave early and we will refund you for the time you have not used. The total of the refund will be based on how much you originally paid when you moved in. Terms and conditions of any discounts applied to your billing, and whether or not you have given us 7 days’ notice that you intended to close your account will also affect the refund value.
